The genesis of Primpak was from the Laboratories of the Nutrition and Food Science Department of the University of Ghana, where production trials of Jamaican Ackees (which grows widely in Ghana) were started with three staff for the firm’s first buyer, Evans Gray and Hood of the United Kingdom. The demand was such that we needed to operate from a larger space. Consequently we secured a larger premises within the Ghana Industrial and Commercial Estates at Weija where we currently operate.The seasonal nature of ackees,led us to add on a few other local products such as the Palm Cream concentrate and canned garden eggs in brine.Going forward, we saw an opportunity in specializing in contract branding for large retail outlets and others who wanted a brand to be identified with them. Subsequently, we have introduced brands such as king Solomon of Belgium,African foods, brand Bankwus of Nigeria,Shoa of Ethiopia,TropiGold of Uk,,Classic Crop of UK,HomeTaste of UK and other local outlets such as MaxMart Brand, Nationspride which is specially packed for SHOPRITE Ghana and Homestyle specially packed Forewing Ghana. Primepak currently has Nafdac certification for the products we export to the Nigerian market. This adds up to the Ecowas Trade Liberilization Certificate which allows our buyers in the Ecowas region to buy our products from us without the payment of the requisite duties, as well as the FDA certification to export freely to the the USA.
